WHAT IS PILATES?
Pilates is an exercise system designed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920’s. He developed a precise and intuitive way of moving that enabled muscles to work in isolation and in perfect physical alignment with out any stress or strain.
Pilates aims to correct poor postures by improving strength and flexibility of muscles and therefore reducing pain. It encourages muscles and joints to move more freely becoming less prone to injury.
It’s emphasis is on a strong core & correct posture.
WHO IS PILATES FOR?
Pilates can be practised by all ages at different levels.
Having a strong core and good posture has many benefits:
It can reduces injures and chronic conditions like back, hip, shoulder ache/pain.
Postnatally it can help strengthen the abdominals, reduce back pain and relief pelvic floor discomfort.
It can prevents excessive wear and tear on joints, ligaments and muscles.
It can increase range of motion and promotes synovial fluid, which keeps cartilage healthy.
It improves general fitness and performance. Strong healthy muscles = increased strength and endurance.
Lastly, it makes you feel good.
